Process
Strategize

While design and deployment of a finished product are exciting and fun processes, they are built off of strategy, concepts, and an open ear. Only creating aesthetically pleasing images is not design. Design is a mixture of function and strategy.

Design

Creating and deconstructing over and over until a sketch becomes a fleshed out, functional design. Strategy is in place, and now on to making it effective. Once an idea has finally come together, refinement and changes are soon to follow for quality assurance.

Deploy

The deployment of a design can be a very stressful time for the designer and client. It takes steady nerves to calmly fix any new problems that may come along after the product is finished. Then again, is a project ever completely finished?

Logos 2011-2013

branding, logo

This is simply a collection of my favorite marks and logos I've created for about the last two years.

Some were created while at Usman Group, and others were created at Pivot Design. Credit is made clear per each logo.

Usman Group

branding, web design, illustration

When I began working at Usman Group, they were in the middle of a rebrand. A new website, logo, stationery, etc. was in effect while many wonderful projects continued to roll in.

Starting with a fresh logo seemed like the best first step. The end result was fun, fresh, and flexible. From there we worked as a team to flesh out and build the entire website. Afterward, there was a need for illustrations in different areas of the small company (with many faces).

Merel Law

web design, illustration

Jonathan Merel came to Usman Group for a new solution to his online presence. He expected a design that wasn't as stuffy as other lawyer websites, as well as something ultra-informative and somewhat emotional.

Where we landed was a contour illustration heavy site with an elegantly styled development plan. With each illustration getting its own page according to Jonathan Merel's services, this site became a colorful, cohesive, well-rounded online brand.

University of Chicago

web design, icons

This web design concept was the result of a call from University of Chicago's Energy Policy Institute at Chicago. We were given all the assets that were to be used, and encouraged to develop a unique identity throughout the site with what was provided.

Strategically created from mobile to desktop, this design's main goal was to be friendly with as many devices as possible. The icon illustrations were created to be incredibly simple, conceptual, and effective for call to action. Any time a large icon is present, it encourages further exploration in important areas for EPIC.

about

My name is Jordan Sparrow, I am a branding/interactive designer and illustrator living in Chicago, IL. Being well rounded in design abilities is one of my many passions.

When I was about 8 years old, I began drawing portraits of friends and my favorite comic book characters. When I was fifteen, design became an interest, and has stuck with my passion for illustration ever since.

In the past I have worked for Usman Group, and now work for Pivot Design. Outside of design, I love the outdoors, reading fiction, live music, and meeting new people. So if you enjoy any of these things, including design, please get ahold of me.
